Are painful joint movements making it hard to enjoy life? Traveling abroad for orthopedic services might be just the answer for a number of aches and pains, such as sports injuries, knee and hip problems or even arthritis. Whether you need hip orthopedics or knee surgery treatment or orthopedics specialists, orthopedic medicine providers, orthopedics doctors and surgeons abroad can help you feel better, work better and play better.

Some of the most common orthopedic services include but are not limited to: hip replacement surgery (partial or total), hip joint resurfacing surgery, knee replacement surgery (partial or total), hand surgery, elbow surgery, and  shoulder surgery.

Surgical orthopedics and orthopedic surgery treatments help treat chronic diseases such as various forms of arthritis in the hands, knees and back. Depending on the type of procedure needed, surgery may take one or more hours, most often being performed under general anesthesia.

In many cases, recovery from most types of orthopedics surgery is quick with very little discomfort. Depending on the type of surgery, recovery time varies from two weeks to four months.  Physical and Occupational therapy usually follows any type of orthopedic surgical procedure, which will help restore muscle strength, coordination, and mobility.

Using an orthopedic procedure to address joint or bone needs is ideal in becoming pain free. By undergoing the procedure, the chances of becoming mobile and increasing movement are drastically improved. Other orthopedic services and procedures include partial or total hip replacement surgery, as well as hip resurfacing surgery, partial or total knee replacement procedures and those that focus on hands, elbow, or shoulder joints.

Where can you find facilities that offer orthopedic procedures? Check out Medical Poland in Bydgoszcz, Poland for excellent orthopedic medical care and a pleasant experience. In addition, look at MediAccess in Cape Town, South Africa for world class medical care.

Orthopedic surgery, like many other surgical procedures, can be a costly endeavor. Ranging from $3,000 to $13,000 in US dollars, if not more, surgical procedures in the United States have become a huge burden on citizens, as well as driving health and medical insurance costs through the roof.

Orthopedic surgeries may include but are not limited to:

·        Total Joint Replacement of Hip or Knee

·        Anterior Hip Replacement Surgery

·        Anterior Cruciate Ligament

·        Hip Abrasion Arthroplasty

·        Knee Abrasion Arthroplasty

·        Hip Resurfacing

·        Arthroplasty

·        Arthroscopic Surgery

·        Hand Surgery

·        Avascular Necrosis

·        Arthritis

Of course, there are many more types of procedures and surgeries that are performed in the orthopedic field. Depending on the type of orthopedic surgery that your condition calls for, treatments, procedures, as well as healing times will vary.

However, many people, though they have heard of medical tourism, don’t realize that the field of orthopedics has a lot to offer travelers in wonderful and exotic destinations around the world.

For example, did you know that Terme Selce in Selce, Croatia provides rehabilitation of sport injuries or the Acibadem Healthcare Group in Istanbul, Turkey provides JCI accredited facilities and care for orthopedic surgery abroad, as do some of the best orthopedic surgeons in India? The best sports injuries programs in Croatia are world-class, as is orthopedic surgery in Mexico. Whether you want rotator cuff treatment in Croatia or some type of orthopedic surgery in Guatemala, orthopedic surgery abroad offers individuals with quality, and affordable orthopedic surgery for any needs.

Whether you need hip joint resurfacing or hip replacement surgery, or some kind of shoulder surgery, knee joint surgery or arthroscopic surgery, there are options for Americans seeking less expensive medical care outside U.S. borders.

Many consumers make the mistake of believing cheaper costs reflect on the experience, training and lack of certification among foreign providers, but this is not the case. Orthopedic care and orthopedic specialists abroad are highly trained, skilled and experienced providers in their fields of study. Many physicians and surgeons abroad are trained in the United States and Britain, and belong to internationally accredited organizations that guarantee their certification and training.

Because of the growing popularity of medical tourism, physicians, surgeons and health care facilities abroad are seeking international accreditation with reputable associations and organizations such as JCI (Joint Commissions International).

Lower costs are available for hip replacement surgery, hip joint resurfacing, and shoulder, hand or knee surgery abroad because international malpractice insurance costs are not nearly as enormous as demand requires in the U.S. Instead of being forced to pay upward of $200,000.00 a year for medical malpractice insurance, foreign physicians and surgeons pass the savings on to their patients.

When it comes to orthopedic surgeries and procedures, many options are possible, for multiple issues caused by arthritis, bone fracture, trauma, spinal injuries and more. Places like Costa Rica, India, facilities like the Vejthani Clinic in Bangkok, Thailand, Mexico, Turkey, South Africa or Norway and Jordan offer medical travelers the best in care while saving a hefty chunk of money at the same time.

Knee surgeries are orthopedic services performed to repair pain in the knee problems caused by injuries, running, tendonitis or arthritis. Common knee surgery procedures include:

  • Knee Replacement Surgery (Arthroplasty) aka Arthroscopic Knee Surgery
  • Knee Ligament Repair
  • Knee Abrasion Arthroplasty
  • Runner’s Knee (Patellofemoral Stress Syndrome)

In the United States, knee joint surgery costs about $30,000. Medical tourists pay around $12,000 in India. Knee ligament repair costs around $17,000 per knee in the U.S., and knee abrasion arthroplasty costs twice that. Even with insurance, costs are astronomical.

Hip replacement surgery often involves bone scans and MRIs, x-rays and ultrasound to determine damage to bones in hip joints. Hip replacement surgical procedures cost up to $43,000 in the United States. In Singapore and Thailand, medical patients may benefit from orthopedic hip replacement surgical procedures that cost about $12,000. In India, costs average about $9,000-$10,000.

Hip joint resurfacing replaces the surface of the hip joint, but removes less bone tissue than traditional hip replacement procedures. Hip resurfacing procedures in the U.S. average $55,000 per hip! The same hip resurfacing procedure in India costs around $8,500. Medical tourists traveling to Thailand, Singapore, and South America for the same treatments may anticipate spending 1/6th the amount charged in the U.S. for such procedures.

Options for orthopedic surgeons, orthopedic specialists and orthopedic care are becoming more available in popular travel destinations around the world. Finally, we have a choice as to how much we’re willing to pay for excellent and experienced medical care.
