Recently, regenerative medicine has received boosts from stem cell research that may be used in a wide variety of fields, including obesity and weight loss, reconstructive and cosmetic surgery using fat transplantation as well as stem cells used for breast implants. Another recent development was the use of stem cells activated by lasers to help treat COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), ranked as the 4th leading cause of death in the U.S.

New stem cell treatments, research and technologies have followed Australian and French researchers as they attempt to develop stem cell delivery systems such as stem cell capsules that may help treat orthopedic issues such as broken bones, while nearly 160 stem-cell based clinical trials are under way in the fields of cardiology, neurodegenerative diseases, diabetes, spinal cord injuries, stroke, immune, ophthalmic and peripheral artery disease, just to name a few.

A large number of these stem cell clinical trials are in Phase II and Phase III trials, and technologies that enable autologous (transplants of a patient’s own tissues) stemm cell therapies lead the stem cell transplantations for stem cell treatments of bone marrow disease processes, while the other majority of stem cells under study were focusing on cardiovascular disease processes including PAD (peripheral artery disease), stroke and cardiac or heart disease.

Facilities such as EmCell, located in Kiev, Ukraine, offer treatments and therapies for a variety of medical conditions, and stem cell research and development facilities in Latin America like American Stem Cell in Quinto, Ecuador also offer treatments, and hope, to many.

Stem cell clinical trials are under way in the U.S. and Europe, within Germany and Spain. From treatment of fractures to treatments for Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis, Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative disease processes, stem cell technologies and research are leading the charge for treatments and cures.

A mere decade ago, medical tourism was not taken very seriously. Much the same way as online schooling or dating, the thought of traveling across borders for medical care was scoffed at. Today, online schools provide accredited educations for millions of students, and online dating has become a norm. No longer is medical tourism thought to be only for people desperate for cheap medical procedures.

Today, medical tourism is the booming and growing industry. Individuals seeking cosmetic dental treatment, plastic surgery specialists, treatment for cancer, custom Lasik eye surgery, fertility treatment abroad, bariatric surgery centers, cardiac bypass surgery, or orthopedic surgeons may find excellent, highly trained, and world-class surgeons, procedures, and facilities around the world.

Medical tourism is not a joke. It has turned into a multibillion dollar industry that continues to grow. Medical destinations are not limited to Mexico or Southeast Asia, but may be found today throughout Switzerland, South Africa, and the Middle East, from Croatia to Guatemala to South Korea.

Treatments for stem cell based therapy, chronic disease treatment, joint replacement surgeries, professional skin care, and plastic, cosmetic and reconstructive surgeries are available in facilities that are JCI (Joint Commissions International) accredited or certified by international accreditation organizations.

Facilities such as the Florence Nightingale Hospital in Istanbul, Turkey, or the Jordan Hospital, in Amman, Jordan are just two of such facilities. Facilities and organizations such as the Wooridul Spine Hospital in Seoul, South Korea to Surgical Bliss in Cape Town, South Africa offer medical travelers today state of the art technologies, highly trained physicians and surgeons as well as world-class facilities for a variety of medical care options that also offers affordability and convenience for medical patients.

In the coming months, stem cell researchers will gather at conferences around the world, discussing recent advancements in stem cell research and development. For example, stem cell therapy research and a variety of formats has made national headline news in countries around the world.  The Salk Institute for Biological Studies and the Center for Regenerative Medicine are forging full steam ahead on umbilical cord blood research of pluripotent stem cells (IPS) as well as embryonic stem cell research.

In the field of orthopedics, stem cell treatments and transplants are being tested in a new surgical technique to repair damaged bone structure. Bone marrow stem cells are taken from the patient and injected into damaged bone structure for regrowth and development of damaged or diseased bone. Such technologies may eventually offer a viable substitute of hip replacement surgery.

Stem cell therapies and treatments are being devised to treat brain disease in patients as well as those suffering cognitive disorders caused by chronic neurodegenerative conditions like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. Testing new systems of stem cell therapy delivery may include inhaling stem cells suspended in fluid for rapid absorption in the brain.

The future of stem cell research, technology and potential treatments and therapies are limitless. Stem cell research and stem cell treatment facilities around the world engaged in all forms of stem cell research, from umbilical cord to placental stem cell and adult stem cells offer encouragement and hope.

Facilities such as EmCell in the Ukraine and Integra Medical Center in Mexico may be researched at PlacidWay.com, an international medical tourism portal that offers resources and information regarding treatments, technologies and therapies for medical consumers around the globe.
