Lower costs don’t mean lower quality - quite the contrary. Health and wellness facilities in Mexico provide Americans living in border states convenient and affordable options to combat continuously rising healthcare costs in the United States. A majority of healthcare facilities, physicians, surgeons and specialists found in Mexico have been trained in the United States and are accredited and certified by national and international accrediting organizations.

Argentina, located in South America, has long been known as a great destination for dental, vision and cosmetic surgical procedures. However, many people don’t know that medical tourism in Argentina is growing by leaps and bounds. Buenos Aires hospitals, Buenos Aires health centers, clinics in Argentina and surgery in Argentina provide some of the most cost effective and quality treatment that can be found anywhere in the world.

Brazil has long been regarded as a destination for cosmetic surgery in particular. Due to the large volume of tourists from the USA and Europe, Brazil has built a reputation for having quality facilities and top-notch care. Medical professionals are held to high standards of education and accreditation, as are her many facilities.

Facilities like Fertility Argentina, located in Buenos Aires, Brazil, and Cedyt in Bariloche, offer fertility treatments to general surgery and plastic surgery procedures, while MedTravel Ecuador, located in Quinto, offers a range of procedures and treatments in orthopedic, bariatric and weight loss surgical procedures, dentistry and eye and LASIK technologies and care.

From dental care to cardiac surgery, South American travel destinations are growing in popularity among world travelers seeking the best in quality and affordability.

Millions of individuals will travel to foreign destinations for medical or health care in 2010, a trend not limited to middle or upper class Americans, Britons, or Canadians. Medical tourism has become a stable method of health and wellness care, preventive medicine and affordable yet quality and safe treatment for individuals from countries in South Africa, South America, Central Europe and Southeast Asia.

Nearly six million Americans alone are estimated to seek international destinations for their medical care in the coming years, and locations in Croatia, Turkey, and Jordan (Jordan Hospital) are fast making a reputation for themselves in providing certified, JCI accredited, and world-class treatments, procedures and facilities for global travelers.

More facilities are applying for international accreditation by institutions such as WHO (World Health Organization), JCI (Joint Commissions International) and the Trent Accreditation Scheme, ensuring quality patient care, safety standards, and the latest in technological developments and techniques.

Orthopedic surgery, cardiac surgical techniques and procedures, obesity and bariatric surgeries and cosmetic and plastic surgical procedures are just a few of the healthcare options available to individuals around the world. Hip replacements, atrial-septal defect repair, gastric bypass and face lifts are just a few of the techniques available in locations around the world. The availability of cancer therapies, stem cell research, dental techniques and vision care has encouraged medical consumers from nearly all countries in the world to travel to foreign destinations for their medical needs.

Medical tourism is here to stay, and has fast become an affordable and logical resource for medical services in the 21st century.

Today, global economic crisis has prompted older individuals to hang onto their jobs instead of opting for early retirement. Unfortunately, those in their 40s, 50s and even 60s must compete with those in their 20s and 30s for jobs. While older individuals may have experience and dependability behind them, managers the world over often prefer that younger individuals hold down the front lines, at least in high-visibility career fields. Cosmetic surgical facelifts are on the rise around the globe in direct response to this growing pressure and competition.

Any facelift, or rhytidectomy, treatment or procedure is considered cosmetic surgery. It is generally sought as a procedure to help improve the visible signs of aging in the face and neck area. A facelift may help to improve sagging; creases, and loss of muscle tone, as well as reduce the appearance of loose skin or fatty deposits in the jaw or neck area. While a facelift offers many years of benefits, it is not designed, nor can it, halt the aging process.

Unfortunately, the  average cost of a full facelift in the United States or Britain can range between $6,000 and $15,000 but some may be as much as $25,000! However, in South Africa, South America or Asia, the same procedure typically costs less than $3,000.

The Grand Resort Bad Ragaz in Switzerland offers year-round luxury for cosmetic surgery patients at huge savings, as does CTG Healthcare Group in Izmir, Turkey. This is not due to lack of skill, training or certification, but different health system management that also lacks the need for outrageous malpractice insurance.

Who isn’t concerned about aging? These days, more middle aged and senior citizens compete with the younger crowd for jobs and job security. You may be older and wiser than your contemporaries, but why look it?

The popularity of cosmetic and plastic surgery has accelerated in the past few decades. Thread lifts are the most commonly performed technique today that involve fairly noninvasive plastic surgical procedures as opposed to the full facelifts offered in the past. Thread lifts are cutting edge technologies that rely on the use of strings that are inserted beneath the skin and attached to basic structural facial tissues.

The cost of antiaging treatments depends on the approach as well as the type of product or service chosen by any given individual. Antiaging creams and shelf products may cost anywhere between $20 and $75 or more per bottle, while thread lift surgical procedures cost around $3,000-$5,000 in the United States.

Anti-aging and cosmetic and plastic surgical treatments are generally not covered under health care policies for American citizens, which leads many to travel south of the border, or to exotic destinations in Europe or Asia for affordable yet quality antiaging treatments. Individuals traveling to India, Thailand, Argentina, Costa Rica or Brazil in addition to the facilities found throughout Poland, Turkey and the Ukraine may save hundreds to thousands of dollars on antiaging treatments, procedures and programs.

Antiaging skin care products, Botox injections, fat transfers, human growth hormones (HGH), stem cell regeneration and rejuvenation and cosmetic and plastic surgeries are on the rise. Affordable age management techniques can be found at Ayurvedic resorts as well as the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz in Switzerland to the Yanhee Hospital in Bangkok, Thailand, among others. Why wait?

Did you know that technologically advanced facilities are cropping up throughout Poland, especially in her major cities. Physicians, staff and facilities are accredited by reputable medical accrediting organizations in Europe and Internationally, and offer beneficial savings in treatments over costs found for similar surgeries and procedures throughout Europe and the United States.

Jordan is the only country in the Middle East with a booming healthcare business. Foreign patients have grown at about a 10% rate annually since 2004. Jordan created a reputation for groundbreaking cardiac and organ transplant surgeries of the 70s and 80s, to cancer treatments, cosmetic and plastic surgery procedures, fertility treatments and procedures in ophthalmology, and more. U.S. travelers pay one-tenth the cost of surgeries.

South Korea is the leading healthcare country in all of Asia and provides world-class medical and health care in non-profit organizations and facilities that place patient care above profit.  South Korea is on the cutting edge of technological advances in medicine and health care. For medical treatments and procedures in organ transplantation, spine care, cancer therapy treatments, dental care, plastic and cosmetic surgery and many others. Medical care costs in South Korea are generally ten times less than costs found in the U.S.

How much are you worth?

And since when should money be a deciding factor on whether or not a person receives the medical care or drugs he or she needs to survive?

For example, depending on the type of procedure or surgery that is performed, cardiac surgeries have widely differing price ranges. However, they are among the most expensive surgical procedures performed in the United States. Coronary bypass surgery can cost up to $20,000 for one bypass, more if additional bypasses are required. A heart transplant can cost over  $150,000!

Highly acclaimed facilities and cardiac surgeons can be found in Jordan, Thailand and Singapore for a fraction of the costs in the U.S. For example, an angioplasty balloon procedure in the U.S. can cost up to $57,000, while in India, the cost hovers around $11,000 and in Thailand the same procedure costs about $13,000.

Laparoscopic gastric bypass procedure in the United States costs roughly (and a minimum) of $30,000. In India, the cost averages about $16,500. In Mexico and South American destinations, costs may average between $9,800 and $13,000.

Liposuction costs and treatments are defined by the area where fat is located and the anatomical focus. To put it quite simply, larger areas cost more. For example, the cost of liposuction to the lower abdomen costs around $2,000 in the United States. Liposuction to the outer thighs may cost $1,600 each. Medical tourists may benefit through cosmetic surgery procedures centers in Argentina, where charges costs are less, generally under $3,000, which in many cases includes lodging. Liposuction in India costs one tenth of what it costs in the United States.

It’s time once again for end-of-year promises and New Year’s resolutions - which means self improvement and image repair. Consumers seeking cosmetic or plastic surgery to help restore breasts through breast augmentation or breast lifts, or those hoping to lose weight through liposuction, body sculpting or obesity and weight loss surgery such as bariatric surgical procedures, lap bands, gastric bypass or other techniques will be looking for cheap options to meet their goals.

However, remember that cheap isn’t always the bottom line when it comes to cosmetic surgery procedures. Yes, medical travelers can save thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars on cosmetic surgery in foreign destinations, not because standards or quality is lower, but because of different health care systems, lower malpractice and liability premiums and methods of practice in locations like Argentina, Turkey and Thailand, just to name a few.

Choosing a qualified plastic surgeon is of vital importance. The surgeon you choose should be a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons or a Society of Plastic Surgeons in the country of origin. Surgeries should be performed in an accredited facility by certified surgeons experienced in their specialty. Physicians and surgeons should be willing to inform potential clients of their training, experience and education, and offer proof of such, no matter the foreign destination that is chosen. When it comes to cosmetic surgery, follow the same practice you would in your home country: ask for qualifications, experience and success rates. Don’t be shy. After all, it’s your body.

Understanding the basics of various forms of plastic and cosmetic surgical procedures will help consumers make educated decisions on various forms of skin care.

Dermabrasion and micro-dermabrasion treatments, also known as chemical peeling, involve removing layers of skin to eradicate pitting, scarring, and pigmentation common with those who’ve suffered from acne or sun damage. In such procedures, a variety of chemicals in varying strength can be used to facilitate smoother skin. Common chemical peels include glycolic acid, which is the mildest form of chemical peel agent.

Many people suffering from acne-scarred skin as well as those experiencing typical signs of aging such as crow’s feet, wrinkles, lines, and age spots opt to engage in non-surgical skin treatments called refinishing or surface repair treatments. These treatments are ideal for those who have mild to moderate imperfections on facial skin. Surface repair treatments give the skin a smoother, fresher look, but in most cases won’t remove extremely deep scarring or prevent the aging process.

Dermatologists or facial plastic surgeons often perform various skin care treatments and procedures. As with anything, it is important for consumers to verify the certification and training of any dermatologist or plastic or cosmetic surgeon prior to engaging his or her services. Checking with local, national dermatological or cosmetic, as well as facial surgeon associations will help to ensure that consumers are engaging the services of properly trained physicians for their skin care needs.

Facilities such as the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz in Switzerland and the Jordan Hospital in Jordan offer age management and anti aging technologies and procedures backed by accreditation and world-renowned reputations that offer security and peace of mind to consumers.
